The project focuses on improving vocational training for
teachers of biology and agricultural sciences and their students
in three transition economies. The countries
– Romania, Bulgaria and Slovenia - represent a range of agro-economic
and social conditions and levels of development.
Agriculture is a
significant sector in all three countries and an important source of
livelihood and employment but access to vocational education and
training is severely limited by resource constraints, scattered
populations and historical antecedents.
Project activities explore various ways in which
biological and agricultural education can be made more widely available to disadvantaged
and remote communities, particularly via distance learning, as well as
ways to increase access to teacher training and the upgrading of
teaching skills in biology and agriculture.
